Homemade Toys For Babies

Babies love playing games. This is why their parents love buying them toys. The problem is sometimes toys can get very expensive. Since parents love their babies very much, they happily spend a lot of money buying these toys that they think their babies will love. But the funny thing is, babies and toddlers just love having something in their hands that they can play with, chew, toss, and break into half! It does not really matter what it is, because at this age they cannot even distinguish from toys, paper cups, hats, or water bottles.

So what happens is parents end up dishing out hundreds and hundreds of dollars on expensive toys that usually end up in a box that gets stored away in the attic.

One way to avoid this catastrophic financial ruin is instead of buying those overprice toys, parents should make homemade toys for their babies! Sounds exciting, doesn't it?

Here are some ideas for toys that parents can make at home:

Drums - Babies love making noise. What better way for them to do this than have their own piece of homemade drums. This is easy enough to create. Just clean out an old milk tin can. and Voila! it becomes a drum. Decorate the side of the drum with some wrapping paper. You can also cover it with some drawings, or other material that is pleasing to the eyes. For sticks, any wooden sticks can be used. Just make sure it is smooth so this does not pose any harm to the baby.

wooden building blocks- This can be a great project that fathers can do for their babies. When making the wooden blocks- small blocks of wood that have been sanded into a smooth finish can serve as wooden blocks! Make sure that there are no jagged edges, or little splinters of wood on the wooden blocks. Once the wooden blocks are smooth, they can now be decorated with a non-toxic set of paint. Babies would not be able to tell these from the ones bought from a toy shop.

colorful boxes- These may not be fun for grown ups but to babies, colorful boxes means fun, fun, fun. Just find any unused box, and decorate it with colorful paper, and funny faces, and designs.

balls made of socks- This is easy enough for anyone to make. Just take a sock that is newly laundered and stuff it with cloth. Roll it into a shape of a ball…there you have it a homemade ball. This can function as a grasping toy for babies. Something for them to play with that will help them master their throwing, and grasping technique. At this point babies are just developing their dexterity. They easily drop things, especially heavy objects. So for babies, light toys, and soft toys, that they can easily grasp are the best choices!

Puppets made of socks- Just take any clean white sock and draw a face on the sock. If you want to get creative you can saw buttons for eyes, and other accessories on the sock to make it look more fun. Since you're the one who is going to be using the puppet to entertain the baby there is no danger of the baby accidentally chewing on the buttons, or tearing it apart.

One of the greatest aspect of making homemade toys is that it gives parents the opportunity to make something special for their children. Also, the whole family can participate in this activity. Older siblings can use their creativity to come up with various ideas of homemade toys. This way, not only will the baby have fun, but the whole family can be involved in this activity!
